TANZANIA UPDATE About the end of April 2007, we'll be loading a shipping container that is 8' by 8' by 20' long to be sent to Kidugala, Tanzania. At first we wondered if we'd ever get enough to fill it! Now we wonder how we'll ever get all the stuff we've collected into it! Recently, Don Schmitz contacted 20 nursing homes about unused items they'd like to donate for our cause. October 25th he pulled into our parking lot with a 16' trailer heaping full of a large variety of items, which included: 6 canes 1 padded chair 16 various walkers 2 pair crutches 9 wheel chairs 6 bed trapeze 1 hospital bed 2 commodes 1 air cast set 2 cartons moist towelettes 2 rolls of hand paper towels 1 med dispensing station 5 medicine cabinets 8 soap dispensers
At the October 22 Harlan Schools auction, the following was purchased for a very low price and donated by individuals. Some of the desks went for just a quarter a piece! 60 folding chairs 45 stacked chairs 10 nursery chairs 75 school desks 2 basketball hoops 26 tables of various sizes
Seventy bags of sunflower seeds have been sold. We have until November 12 to reach our goal of 100. This is a project where we are helping the villagers to help themselves. During the month of December up to January 7, well be collecting pop cans. Start saving them up and bring yours to the church during this time. If youd like we'll even come pick them up. Just call the church office! December 3 will be the Christmas Home Tour. Tickets may be purchased in advance or at the church that day. You'll have the opportunity to visit 7-8 homes, all decorated for the holidays. Return to the church for a hot drink and Christmas goodies. Proceeds will go towards the cost of bringing a Kidugala ambassador back next summer. Thrivent Financial is offering matching funds. Coffee from Tanzania, either whole bean or ground, is for sale for $7 a bag. You may purchase this in the church office or after services on Sundays.
INSPIRE CATALOG ORDERS Orders will be taken until November 19 for orders from the Christian catalog Inspire. Orders are sent in weekly and take about 10 days to come in. Pick up a copy in the office, fill out the order, and return to the office with your check made out to ILC. Proceeds go towards the Tanzania Mission Project.
